Once the holiday decorations come down, the house can seem bare and even austere. Perhaps there's no better time of year to infuse your home with fresh flowers to beat the winter blues and set the right tone for a fresh start in 2015. Many flowers have long been associated with qualities like luck and hope that are perfect symbols for you to achieve your New Year's resolutions. Be sure to add some of these flowers to your home and floral displays to add some positivity to your home during those dreary days of winter.

1. Luck in the New Year

Some fresh flowers have long been associated with good luck. If you've created some ambitious New Year's Resolutions for 2015, you might want to invite as much luck as you can get into your home. Some of the luckiest flowers, according to tradition, are bells of Ireland, camellias, and lovely carnations. In fact, carnations aren't very costly, so you can easily create large displays for foyers or table centerpieces. Folkloric traditions holds that white carnations are the luckiest.

2. Prosperity

It's very common in many cultures to wish family and friends a prosperous new year. If you want to infuse your home with fresh flowers or plants that signify prosperity, consider a bamboo plant. In China, bamboo has even been revered as a wish granter! Associated with luck and wealth, bamboo plants also make lovely gifts. Other  fresh flowers associated with wealth and prosperity include paperwhites, lilies, chrysanthemums, and gladiolas.

3. Wisdom

To meet our New Year's goals, it takes more than luck--it takes wisdom too. To that end, a small sage plant is the perfect ornament for your kitchen window sill. Many herbs like sage make lovely house plants that can be used in the kitchen too. If you don't have time to cultivate your own herb garden, consider a few herbs to grow indoors. Rosemary is also associated with wisdom and can be used to a wide array of culinary dishes.

4. Cheerfulness

To add some cheer to your winter home, consider fresh flowers like crocuses, pale pink roses, and chrysanthemums. You can also choose fresh flowers that are showy and attention-getting,  (try: Pura Vida Bouquets  when translated, means The Good Life!) will help you keep your mind off the cold weather and thinking about spring. You can perk up any floral display by adding baby's breath or carnations to the mix. Add a touch of lavender for refreshing scent.

5. Beauty

When it comes to floral beauty, you may have your own ideas. You might choose a floral display that complements your décor or one that simply makes you smile. If you're traditional, opt for a gorgeous display of red roses. Add a vase full of luscious pink roses to your bedroom--a glorious site to wake up to! Other  fresh flowers and plants that add instant beauty to your home include African violets, orchids, primroses, and fragrant gardenias.

Add some meaningful fresh flowers to your home for a fresh start in 2015. They might, indeed, bring you luck, wisdom, prosperity, and if not at least a SMILE!
